Free Bread For a Year!

Yes, you read that right. Tomorrow at 9 a.m., Boudin Bakery will open its Roseville location in the Fountains shopping center and the first 100 customers in line will receive complimentary sourdough bread each day for a whole year.

Just imagine… that warm, soft San Francisco Sourdough French bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. Our mouths are already watering…

What time people are showing up, we aren’t sure. But if people are as hard-core about bread as about Harry Potter movies, there might be some camping out.

If you can’t be there at the opening, still stop by later and check out the on-premise bakery and restaurant, which features a three-day part menu.

For more information about Boudin and their online catalog, visit boudinbakery.com.

WHAT: Boudin’s Grand Opening
WHEN: Wednesday, August 26
WHERE: 1017 Galleria Blvd. Roseville
WHY: Be one of the first 100 people in line and receive free bread for a year.

That’s What “Carissa’s Friends” Are For

For four years in a row, the Folsom team “Carissa’s Friends” has participated in the annual Light the Night Walk dedicated to raise funds for cancer survivors around the country.

In honor and support of Carissa Lane, her friends formed this team to help find a cure and better treatments for blood cancers. Team members will also have their annual lemonade stand...with more than just something cold to drink – this year the girls will also have jewelry, gently used items, books and baked goods, all for sale to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

There are lots of ways that you can help too! You can stop by the team’s lemonade stand on September 7, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., on Silberhorn Drive between S. Lexington and Fayette in Folsom.

Or, you can click here to make your donation or join the team in the walk, which is on September 26 at the State Capitol.

For more information about the walk, visit lightthenight.org.

New Memorial Honors Local Hero

There are local public heroes all around us, and we at Style love when the community comes together to honor them.

So mark your calendars on August 29 for an event well worth your time, the Grand Opening of the Deputy Jeff Mitchell Field and Public Service Memorial.

The newly renovated Little League field is located at 831 Redwood Lane, near Bertelsen Park and Brooks Elementary School in El Dorado Hills.

On October 27, 2006 Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Mitchell's life was taken while on duty. The new memorial and ballpark will honor him and other public service heroes.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Homemade Goodness!

It’s nuts I’m telling you...and once you’ve had this awesome BLT sandwich with avocado at the new Acorn Café in downtown Folsom you’ll be coming back for more! As if bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo isn’t enough, one regular customer tells us the avocado addition smashes all competitors...turkey & Swiss from anywhere else is stale in comparison.

Acorn Café’s BLTA is one of a variety of healthy and freshly made gourmet sandwiches...and they’re piling on quite a reputation. Everything on the menu is made from scratch – no day-old breads or crappy frozen pizzas.

Acorn Café also has lunch specials everyday for $5.50. This coming fall, you can have a cup of soup with any one of the following selections:
- turkey and avocado sandwich
- black forest ham sandwich
- tuna salad
- chicken salad

For more details about the menu, call the restaurant at 916-985-8909. It’s located at 49 Natoma Street...just across from City Hall in Folsom.
