Vote for Your City in the "We Hear You American" campaign!

Flipping through a Reader's Digest gives us a little moment of nostalgia. And that's why we were excited to hear about the "We Hear You America campaign," the national, grassroots initiative meant to empower Americans to help their local communities by casting votes online for their hometown.

Last year’s program touched 50% of the cities, towns, and villages in the United States, 110 of which received funds and promotional support for needed community projects and civic initiatives.

To date, the program has helped fund and promote quality-of-life projects ranging from building a new municipal pool in Genoa, Nebraska, to expanding a public library in Ainsworth, Nebraska, to replacing fire hydrants in Boley, Oklahoma, to developing a skate and bike park in Armada, Michigan, to repairing a city art gallery in Manchester, New Hampshire, to bringing back 4th of July fireworks in Jackson, Illinois.

It’s easy for people to vote for a town. Go online, log on to ReadersDigest.com, type in the name of the town, and click on the word “Vote.” People may cast as many votes as they like. While on the site, individuals are encouraged to upload photos of their towns, describe the needs of their communities, and talk about why where they live is the best place in America. The We Hear You America campaign will provide support to the towns receiving the most votes, including being featured in the Reader’s Digest annual Best of America issue and on ReadersDigest.com. Communities participating in the initiative may also be featured in Reader’s Digest and on ReadersDigest.com during 2012.

Happy Voting for your city!

Sutter Creek Parade of Lights!

One of our favorite pastimes of the holiday season is a festive parade. And few can top the Sutter Creek parade, which brings everything including cars, mail trucks, school buses, horses, dogs, people, marching bands, baton twirlers, and more, parade down Historic Sutter Creeks' Main Street. It's a magical night that children and adults can enjoy alike!

All of the wonderful Gold Rush buildings are decked out in Holiday splendor. Bubbles float down from the American Exchange Hotels' balcony and give the feeling of snowflakes. Get there early and enjoy the FREE Horse Drawn Wagon Rides on Main Street!

Anyone can be in the parade, just fill out the application by clicking here Parade Entry Forms 2011, and then start brainstorming on your entry. This is a great opportunity for a family to do something fun together and also for businesses to advertise to the local community. You can also pick up an entry form at the Sutter Creek Visitor Center at 71A Main Street.

There is plenty of parking downtown and the parade starts at 6:30. Remember to dress warm!

WHEN: Saturday December 10th

Vote for your favorite, festive Roseville wreath!

The 4th Annual “Street of Wreaths” in Downtown Roseville (on Vernon Street) is now happening through the entire month of December!

This holiday experience provides your family the opportunity to stroll down Vernon Street in the Downtown Roseville area and view the beautifully-crafted wreaths produced by the students in the Roseville Adventure Clubs (the after-school programs in many of our local schools).

And these aren't just your traditional pine tree wreaths. There are ones decorated with everything from snowflakes to gingerbread men.

The public is invited to participate as judges while viewing the wreaths in the merchant storefronts along Vernon Street. Please help vote for the “Top 3 Wreaths” by obtaining a Voting Form at one of the 5 Ballot Drop-off Locations below. (It should look like the above picture).

The voting will officially end on December 11th so a winner can be announced by the Downtown Roseville Merchants before the schools go on vacation (but the wreaths will remain on display through December).

Ballots and Wreath Maps can be picked up at the following merchant locations:

First Bank (201 Vernon St)
Nice Twice Consignment (209 Vernon St)
A Dash of Panache (217 Vernon St)
Chester’s Jewelry & Loan (239 Vernon St)

Moscow Classical Ballet comes to Three Stages!

It's now December and 'tis the season to get festive. For us at Style there's nothing to get us more in the mood than a performance of the classic Nutcracker.

And this year Folsom is extremely honored to have the Moscow Classical Ballet, winner of 15 gold medals, performing at Three Stages.

It will be a ballet not to miss!

The Moscow Classical Ballet came into existence as the Young Ballet, the USSR State Choreographic Company, in 1966. It was established by the USSR Ministry of Culture as a ballet troupe whose role was to tour the Soviet Union and foreign countries performing Russian classical ballet in its traditional form.

The company, under the artistic direction of Igor Moiseyev, gave its first performance in 1968. Its repertoire consisted of excerpts from classical ballets and choreographic miniatures produced by such choreographers as Vinogradov, Goleizovsky, Messerer and Moiseyev himself.

In 1977, Vladimir Vasilyov, Asaf Messerer's pupil, and Natalia Kasatkina, Marina Semyonova's student, assumed the roles of artistic directors. Their arrival on the scene transformed the ballet company into the troupe it is today. The troupe has emerged from its earlier role as a concert company into that of a touring ballet theater, exhibiting a theatrical approach to the most traditional masterpieces of Russian Ballet and the newest achievements in modern choreography. Kasatkina and Vasilyov have been dancing and choreographing together since 1959, and have produced more that 55 of theirlibrettos in the USSR and abroad. Their philosophy of the company, however, has always reflected the public's interest in classical performances.

WHEN: Wednesday, December 7 at 7 pm and Thursday, December 8 at 2 pm at 7 pm.
COST: Tickets are $29-$49 with Premium tickets available for $59-$65.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.threestages.net or from Three Stages Ticket Office at 916-608-6888 from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show time. Three Stages is located on the west side of Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, CA, facing East Bidwell Street.

Sacramento Restaurant Named in Best Wine List in the Country!

We at Style were pretty proud when we found out that Sacramento's own Enotria Restaurant and Wine Bar made the 2011 Diners' Choice top 50 best wine lists of the country!

Not to mention it beat out San Francisco and wine country restaurants...

We say kudos to the entire team at Enotria and general manager Michael Coyne Jr.

The Choice Award is derived from more than 10 million reviews submitted by OpenTable diners for more than 12,000 restaurants in all 50 states.

Diners are invited to share which restaurants they consider to have the most "Notable Wine Lists."

Coyne said that the award is even more gratifying since they were recognized by Sacramento diners.

Congrats Enotria!

New online calendar lists all the choral events in the region!

Roseville resident Dick Frantzreb has launched The Sacramento Choral Calendar as a free community service to the greater Sacramento area. The Calendar is located at www.sacchoralcalendar.com, and presents, in chronological order, key details about the upcoming concerts of more than 50 choral organizations.

The calendar covers independent choruses and those affiliated with colleges or universities from Grass Valley to Elk Grove, Placerville to Davis. Where does the information come from? Frantzreb monitors each organization’s website on a monthly basis, and uses their public information to build the Calendar’s listings. The choral concerts of churches and high schools are not covered this systematically, but their events are included in the Calendar when submitted. The December calendar alone lists 94 events (so far).

We are so excited to now find all the choral events all in one place. It guarantees we won't miss a thing!

For more info visit www.sacchoralcalendar.com.
