Kitten Foster Volunteers Needed at Placer SPCA

This summer, about a third of all cats in the care of the Placer SPCA are receiving special attention in volunteer foster homes. By far, the majority of them are kittens too young to be adopted.  Some are so little they have to be bottle-fed.

As more cats come in the door every day, the Placer SPCA is seeking additional help.  Those interested are invited to sign up for an upcoming Foster Care Class on June 24, July 6 or July 15.

Teens can help, too! Teens age 13 to 17 who are seeking to fulfill community service hours over the summer can sign up for a class on Sunday, July 22 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. A parent must accompany the teen, and must provide oversight during fostering.

“Our foster volunteers make all the difference in the world to the little ones,” said Placer SPCA CEO Leilani Fratis. “And the fostering process is incredibly rewarding.”

WHAT: Foster Care Classes
WHO: Placer SPCA
WHERE: 150 Corporation Yard Road, Roseville
WHEN: Adult Foster Care Class:

                 Teen Foster Care Class:
                 Sunday, July 22: 12:00 - 3:00 pm

What the volunteers provide:
  •      A safe place
  •      Love and attention
  •      Room to play
What the Placer SPCA provides:
  •        Food
  •        Cat Litter
  •        Any required veterinary care
Those interested in fostering can sign up for a class online at placerspca.org/foster, or by calling (916) 782-7722, ext. 216 or (530) 885-7387, ext. 216.

For those who are interested in helping but cannot be foster parents, the Placer SPCA is also seeking donations of kitten food and formula, as well as monetary donations.

The Placer SPCA is also currently offering special adoption pricing for kittens of $99 each or two for $100. All cats adopted from the Placer SPCA have been spayed or neutered, tested for common feline viruses, vaccinated and microchipped.

Residents of Placer County who have unaltered cats are encouraged to contact the Placer SPCA’s Spay and Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) at (916) 782-7722, ext. 201 or (530) 885-7387, ext. 201 for free spay or neuter of cats.

Placer County Fair Starts Tomorrow

Imagine a cow driving a NASCAR race car towards the finish line located at the main gate of the Placer County Fair, while a goat enthusiastically waves a checkered flag perched at the highest point on the nostalgic Ferris Wheel. This year, the 2012 Placer County Fair theme is “Race to the Fair."

The goal is to promote both the Fair and the NASCAR track, the “All American Speedway.” As you walk around the fair, you will notice the racing theme blended with the traditional aspects of a county fair.

Delicious fair treats, both fried as well as more health conscious options will be available to tempt any palate, while patrons can enjoy browsing the varied vendors selling unique wares.

Entertainment is a focal point for 2012, as they are bringing a large draw “Grandstand” event each day of the Fair. Thursday night they will showcase a big name concert. Friday there will be a Mixed Martial Arts bout, and they have  matched two Heavy Weight title bouts. Saturday they will have a big NASCAR Sanctioned Points Race.  Sunday there will be a 200 Lap Enduro. What’s an Enduro? Thursday is Senior Day; free admission for those 60+. Friday is Corporate Day; all employees of all fair sponsors get free admission.  Saturday is Service Day; active military and a guest get free admission. Sunday is Kids Day; kids get free admission.
