Association of Fundraising Professionals Presents How Donor’s Want to be Treated

The El Dorado County Extension of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will feature “Development from the Donors Perspective” at its next quarterly luncheon on May 14; coordinated by Marshall Foundation for Community Health, and hosted by The Sequoia Restaurant, 643 Bee Street in Placerville.

In spite of the best planning, donors don't always fit into the organization's process very neatly. The donor's definition of the best way to help them make a gift is not always captured. You will hear from two experts in the field how to be more flexible, innovative and empathetic to the donor's perspective. The speakers will discuss how to examine your own "sacred cows," and recommend ways to be more responsive to your donors' needs.

Alice L. Ferris, MBA, CFRE, ACFRE, and James Anderson are partners in GoalBusters, which helps organizations build resources for sustainable, mission driven programs. GoalBusters specializes in outsourced development for nonprofits; integrated fundraising, marketing and strategic planning; and customized education and training programs with clients in many sectors, including public and community broadcasting, education, arts and culture, social service, healthcare and Native American causes.

Jim Anderson has more than 25 years of sales and sales training experience and migrated into the nonprofit arena in 2005. Jim specializes in analyzing donor motivations, implementing marketing and social media campaigns, finding compelling stories for organizational case statements, improving nonprofit communications, and making any special event more effective and fun. In 2010, Jim was selected as the Association of Fundraising Professionals Northern Arizona Fundraising Professional of the Year, and he is the 2013-2014 President of the AFP Northern Arizona chapter.

Alice Ferris has over twenty years of professional fundraising experience, and is a two-time honoree as AFP-Northern Arizona Fundraising Professional of the Year. Alice has served on a multitude of nonprofit boards over the last 15 years, including 8 years on the AFP International Board. In addition, she is one of less than 100 in the world to receive the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive credential. She specializes in strategic and development planning, board development, annual giving and nonprofit operations.

Alice and Jim are both AFP Master Teachers and have presented throughout North America.
Registration includes lunch and program for $35 and $25 for AFP members.  Space is limited and the deadline for reservations is May 9.  For further information or to make a reservation, please call Marshall Foundation at 530-642-9984.
