Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Franco’s 5 & 10 Open Now At Palladio

Palladio announced Red Robin Gourmet Burgers has opened at Palladio at Broadstone. Red Robin is a National Franchise relocating their Folsom location on Riley Street to a new location at Palladio across from Toby Keith’s.

“I am excited Red Robin is relocating to Palladio with a new prototype and new menu; they will make a great addition to our growing center.” - Gloria Wright, General Manager at Palladio.

Red Robin will be bringing with them their many varieties of gourmet burgers and their famous bottomless steak fries, and always a favorite with the kids - unlimited macaroni and cheese!

Also, Franco’s 5 & 10 opened on Wednesday. Kirk Psenner opened up KwirkWorld a few months ago. KwirkWorld is a fun, quirky, unique gift store in Palladio. Now he’s at it again with a completely different concept, Franco’s 5 & 10. “I was so taken with the Palladio shopping center that I decided the retail spot facing KwirkWorld should be the home of a new creation that I had been pondering for some time, Franco’s 5 & 10. When you first walk in to Franco’s you will notice that this is not your grandparent’s candy store. Glitter encrusted red floors greet you and the bright neon colors of the decor send the message that this is a fun place to be.” - Kirk Psenner, Owner.

Franco’s will sell ice cold soda pop in a variety of nostalgic flavors, taffy and melt in your mouth caramel corn, ice cream bars and toys, a variety of kids candy plus all the popular candy that you would expect to see in a vintage candy store.

Help A Local Child Fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

On Thursday, May 23, join in the fight of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy with Riley!

January 4, 2013 was the day Riley, a 7th grader at Rolling Hills Middle School, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne is fatal muscle wasting disease affecting 1 in 3,500 boys worldwide. It robs boys of their ability to walk, eat, speak, breath and eventually takes their lives. Many boys lose their fight before they reach age 20. To date, there is no cure or treatment to stop the progression of Duchenne.

Riley is beginning to lose his ability to walk, and to make matters worse, this devastated family is now dealing with significant financial difficulties.

Celebrate Riley’s 13th Birthday and help support this amazing boy and his family! Food, entertainment, raffle, community & of course...BIRTHDAY CAKE!

Proceeds raised will go to support Riley and his family as well as fund research through Parent Project to End Muscular Dystrophy and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Here are some highlights:
On Oct. 12, 2013, Titans, the symphony performs three pieces: Richard Wagner’s “Reinzi” overture,” Alexander Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances (Prince Igor)” and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, “Titan.”

For its annual holiday program Dec. 7 and 8, 2013, Music of Many Lands, the orchestra performs Guiseppe Verdi’s “Overture From La Forza del Destino,” Mendelssohn’s “The Hebrides,” Hector Berlioz’s “March Hongroise” and songs from the highlands performed by the City of Sacramento Pipe Band, plus other holiday music and a traditional holiday carol singalong.

On Feb. 8, 2014, Romance! will be in the air as the symphony honors Valentine’s Day. The evening features Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Fantasia para un Gentilhombre,” with guitarist Larry Ferrara, Peter Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings,” Verdi’s Triumphal March from “Aida,” songs of romance sung by guest soloist tenor Robert Vann and more.

On March 29, 2014, In Celebration of Spring, the orchestra performs Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Russian Easter Overture,” Leopold Mozart’s “Toy Symphony,” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Concerto in B Flat Major, featuring solo bassoonist Tariq Masri, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.

You’ll soar with the opening theme from Richard Strauss’ “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” Wagner’s “Entry of the Gods Into Valhalla,” Howard Shore’s “Fellowship of the Rings” suite, and selections from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets: (Mars, Venus and Jupiter),” “Superman” and “Star Trek.”

200 Synchronized Swimmers Compete At Sierra College

The weekend every aspiring national synchronized swimmer anticipates is coming up; the Regional Age Group Synchronized Swim Meet commences on the weekend of May 17-19, right here at Placer Valley's Sierra College in Rocklin.

Around 200 athletes from Northern and Central California will be competing in this qualifying meet that will determine which swimmers will attend the National Age Group Meet in Riverside in June.
Swimmers from this region (Sacramento and the Bay Area) are expected medal placers in Nationals and typically represent the best teams in the nation.  More often than not, Synchronized Swimming Olympians hail from one of these Northern California synchro programs.

This meet is technically two competitions in one. First, the Pacific Association-Sacramento, the Bay Area and Santa Rosa teams-will compete with the Central Association (Cypress and Monterey teams) in a regional meet. Immediately afterward--the same weekend, is the Age Group Nationals Qualifying Meet.  Can you feel the pressure yet?

Middle and advanced-level competitive synchronized swimmers between the ages of eight and 19 will compete. The teams that will be represented at this meet include the Sacramento Synchronized Swim Team, the Walnut Creek Aquanuts, the Santa Clara Aquamaids, the San Francisco Marionettes, Redwood Empire, the Cypress Swim Club, and other teams from the Santa Rosa, Los Gatos and Monterey areas.

Our local Sacramento Synchronized Swimming has a top-ranking 11-12 Trio and Duet Routine starring Noel Song, McKenzie Schoel and Nicole Meza. Rising star Paige Gwaltney just made the 11-12 national team and will be competing later this summer in an International competition.  Sacramento's 13-14 team will be vying for a spot in the top three in routine, and the 18-19 team is hoping for a shot at Nationals for the fifth time.
