Folsom Lake College Youth Chamber Orchestra Announces August 12 Auditions

Local youth musicians are invited to an August 12 audition for the new Folsom Lake College Youth Chamber Orchestra, with the auditions focused on bass, cello and viola. The auditions will be held at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College (10 College Parkway in Folsom), starting at 2pm.

The mission of the Youth Chamber Orchestra is to inspire music appreciation and excellence among children ages 12-18, and increase community awareness of and participation in the musical experiences of the youth of Folsom Lake College’s service area (Rancho Cordova, Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Shingle Springs, Placerville and surrounding communities). The Folsom Lake College Youth Chamber Orchestra is made possible thanks to the generous donation of The Robert S. and Star Pepper Foundation.

Student placement is competitive, and is ranked in order of artistic quality. Those qualities include superiority of tone, intonation, vibrato (as appropriate), dynamic range, musicality, and general accuracy. The audition will be adjudicated by highly qualified professional musicians.

To apply, please fill out the Audition Form at threestages.net (go to “Community” on the homepage and select “Youth Chamber Orchestra”) and return with $50 non-refundable audition fee by August 6. This fee will cover the 2012-2013 season.

The Orchestra Coordinator/Conductor is Dr. Evgeniy Sporov. Before moving to California, Dr. Sporov played the role of lead violin instructor at numerous music camps and was the designated instructor of the first violin section of the Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra. Before moving to the U.S., Dr. Sporov was the regional supervisor for the string departments of 127 music schools and three music colleges in Russia. Dr. Sporov is also an accomplished pianist who has taught piano for nearly ten years. Dr. Sporov earned his Doctorate in Violin Performance from Michigan State University. He received his Master’s Degree in Chamber Ensemble Performance and a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from Glinka State Conservatory in Russia.

Rehearsals will take place every Wednesday from 7:00-8:40pm, August 15 through November 21st at Three Stages in Stage 3/Scott-Skillman Recital Hall. All students will be expected to be on time and prepared for each rehearsal.

The Orchestra's debut concert will be held Wednesday, November 28, at 7pm in Three Stages’ Stage 1.
