59th Army Band Concert March 11th at Roseville High School

The 59th Army Band Concert will be on Monday, March 11 at 7:00 P.M.

The concert will be held at the Patti Baker Theater at Roseville High School (1 Tiger Way).

This concert is FREE, and not tickets are needed.

The 59th Army Band was first organized on May 8, 1861, as the band of the First California Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The band is one of the oldest units in the California National Guard and one of the oldest bands in the United States Army. Currently stationed in Sacramento, the band is known as “The Governor's Own” and has performed for nearly every governor's inauguration since 1928 and regularly performs at the State Capitol. The band and its small groups perform at dozens of military and civilian events each year for a wide range of audiences.

The members of the unit must maintain their musical proficiency at all times, and are held to all other Army standards including physical fitness and warrior training. The band's mission is to provide musical support to the troops, be ambassadors for the California National Guard, and promote national interests.

The band's 30+ members reside throughout northern California and meet one weekend a month and 15 days throughout the year to rehearse and support military and community events throughout the state. While some of the members work for the military full-time in various fields, other members are also civilian band and classroom teachers, health professionals, college students, law enforcement professionals, building contractors, full-time moms, government administrators, computer specialists and legal professionals.

The unit can be reorganized to create various ensembles including Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz/Dance Band, Pop Band, Dixieland Band, Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, Jazz Combo, Saxophone Quartet, Clarinet Quartet, Fife and Drums and Bagpiper.

The Band is commanded by First Sergeant Kenneth Cassius. Sergeant First Class Tim Sanders serves as the acting First Sergeant.
