Sierra Wildlife Rescue's Baby Bird Nursery To Open Soon!

If you missed Sierra Wildlife Rescue’s April Baby Bird Nursery for prospective new Baby Bird Nursery volunteers classes (there is still one available on April 23, from 7 to 9 p. m), you can still be trained to feed the baby birds on Wednesdays at 5 pm at the SWR Center.

The nursery will be open to feed rescued, orphaned, and injured nestlings and fledglings from early May through July, and Sierra Wildlife Rescue always welcome and need additional volunteers. You will receive hands-on training from experienced volunteers.

SWR’s Wildlife Center is located at 3030 Newtown Rd, in Placerville. Parking is limited, so please make reservations with Barbara at 530-621-2650, or at barbaraewing@cal.net, and she will have information about when the Nursery will open.

Baby birds are adorable and fun to care for, and you will learn a great deal about the wide variety of species throughout El Dorado County.  Please come give SWR a hand with this enjoyable and worthwhile work!

Calling All Cat Lovers - Catapawlooza At Placer SPCA May 4th

In honor of cat lovers everywhere, Placer SPCA is hosting Catapawlooza, on Saturday, May 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at 150 Corporation Yard Road in Roseville.

To honor their feline friends, Place SPCA's event will be "cat-themed." However, they ask that cats be left at home to limit their stress. However, well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome.

This free event will feature cat-themed carnival games, raffle prizes, adoption specials and much more!  Vendors will be on site, selling a variety of cat and dog friendly items. To see a list of all vendors attending, please visit placerspca.org/catapawlooza. Have your questions answered at the “Ask a Vet Booth”, and “Ask an Animal Behaviorist” booth, or swing by the Pet Psychic for a different approach.

Purchase one-of-a-kind paw-art from our resident adoptable artists, Vincent Van Gatto and Meow-net. Paw paintings will be on display next to their artist’s cat-condo.  These original and fun pieces of art will be available to purchase during Catapawlooza. All proceeds will benefit the Placer SPCA.

Place SPCA wants their cuddly cats to find forever homes. To encourage qualified adopters to provide just that, they are waiving adoption fees for all cats during Catapawlooza.  All animals adopted from the Placer SPCA have received a behavior assessment; spay or neuter surgery; testing for FELV and FIV; rabies and FVRCP vaccines; and a microchip. Adopters receive a voucher for a free veterinary exam.

Catapawlooza is sponsored by 96.9 The Eagle/KSEG FM, Sacramento’s Classic Rock. For more information, please visit the Placer SPCA website at placerspca.org/catapawlooza or call (916) 782-7722 or (530) 885-7387.  As Placer County’s local companion animal welfare experts, the Placer SPCA works toward the day when every adoptable companion animal in Placer County has a home.

Run4Roseville Honors Boston Victims This Sunday At Their Annual Race

Volunteers of the Run4Roseville race are preparing for a recording breaking crowd on Sunday Morning, April 21st, at 8:30 at Maidu Community Park in Roseville.

The annual Run4Roseville offers a 5K Run and Lil' Ones 100 Meter Dash.

Nearly 2,000 runners and walkers will gather moments before the 5k race to pay tribute with a moment of silence for those impacted by bombings at the Boston Marathon earlier this week.

Roseville City School Board Member and race organizer Susan Duane has been working on this annual community event for several years and hasn't experienced this sort of outpouring of support in recent memory. "This run has always been a fan favorite, but with the heartbreaking even that transpired in Boston we've seen an increase in registrations." An avid runner, Duane instinctively knew she had an opportunity to publicly honor the victims while giving families a chance to help a local cause.

Run4Roseville is expected to raise $45,000, which will benefit the Roseville City School District Foundation. Proceeds from the family-friendly race will be a available to teachers in 18 schools for classroom use in areas such as enrichment programs and technology.

There is still limited space available for additional registrants. For more information, visit Run4Roseville.com.
