Sacramento Museums Celebrate Spring With Special Events & Activities in April

Imagine. Explore. Discover.  In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science and wildlife treasures all year long.

In April, many of the 30 members of Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) are featuring events and activities that celebrate spring, a few of which include the following:

Earth Fest-Party for the Planet at the Sacramento Zoo  – April 5
It’s a party for the planet! Learn how to protect and preserve the earth with environmental, wildlife and conservation organizations. During the day, Zoo visitors can explore animal bio-artifacts; participate in storytelling and activities in the Discovery Room; come face-to-face with the outreach animals; or listen as keepers present enrichment talks.  For more, visit saczoo.org.

Open Garden Day at the Historic Old City Cemetery – April 12
The gardens of the Historic City Cemetery will be in full bloom during the annual Open Garden event.  The fragrance of the old roses of the award-winning Historic Rose Garden will fill the air as 500 roses clamber up trees, cover archways and bloom on big shrubs in this unique 19th century setting.  For more, visit cemeteryrose.org.

Easter Bonnet Promenade & Spring Ball in Old Sacramento – April 19
The Historic Old Sacramento Foundation invites one and all to dress up in your favorite Easter finery -- or other historic apparel -- to celebrate in high style during the 19th Annual “Living History” Easter Bonnet Promenade!  Year after year, visitors of all ages come from near and far to take a leisurely one-hour stroll through the historic boardwalks and cobblestone streets of Old Sacramento.   “Promenading” guests are also invited to enjoy a special Spring Ball featuring 19th century ballroom and period music. For more, visit historicoldsac.org.

Celebrate the Earth Festival at the Roseville Utility Exploration Center  – April 26

Everyone is welcome at this FREE family event, hosted by Roseville Electric, Environmental Utilities and the Utility Exploration Center, and sponsored by the Whole Foods Market in Roseville. Join us for a day of tasty food, live music, local green vendors, family entertainment and more!   For more, visit www.roseville.ca.us/earthday
