The Folsom Cordova Education Foundation (FCEF) and VSP
® Vision Care have partnered together to develop an internship and scholarship program for graduating seniors in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD).
The program will award one student annually with a four-year scholarship covering tuition and textbook costs at the University of California, Davis, or California State University, Sacramento, as well as paid internship with VSP.
Cordova High School senior, Stephanie Grimaldo, was recently selected as the program’s first intern and scholarship recipient. Stephanie is planning to pursue a career in optometry and will be attending either California State University, Sacramento, or the University of California, Davis, starting in the Fall of 2012.
The program comes as a result of VSP’s engagement with the FCEF’s Corporate Partners Program, which focuses on partnering with local businesses to help increase career-readiness opportunities for FCUSD students. VSP and FCEF take into account many factors when selecting recipients of the scholarship and internship program, including a student’s financial needs, a strong academic record, community involvement and cultural background.
“The Folsom Cordova Education Foundation is very excited to see the fruits of our work with key corporate partners in the community, like this program with VSP, to deliver value to exceptional FCUSD students like Stephanie and help deliver them opportunities to succeed in today’s and the future workplace,” said Jeffery Galinovsky, President of the Folsom Cordova Education Foundation.
“VSP has long recognized the critical role education plays in maintaining a thriving workforce,” said Steve Scott, Community Outreach Specialist of VSP Vision Care. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring this college scholarship and intern program to our community. We congratulate Stephanie Grimaldo on becoming our first recipient and we look forward to the positive impact and opportunities this unique program will bring to other local students.”
“This program is an excellent example of how the Folsom Cordova Education Foundation’s partnerships with businesses truly benefits students in their career preparation and supports their pursuit of a post-secondary education,” Said Deborah Bettencourt, Superintendent of the Folsom Cordova Unified School District.
