Sutter Creeks 6th Annual Parade of Lights Tonight

Sutter Creek will come alive with twinkling lights tonight, December 15th at 6:30p.m., during their 6th Annual Parade of Lights.

Everything from cars, mail trucks, school buses, horses, dogs, people, marching bands, baton twirlers and more are decorated in twinkling lights and parade down Historic Sutter Creeks' Main Street beneath the moonlight on a crisp December evening.

Sponsored by the Sutter Creek Business & Professional Association, everyone is invited to come down and watch this magical parade. Both children and adults will enjoy this evening of old fashioned hometown fun!

Main Street itself is beautiful to behold. All of the wonderful, historic Gold Rush buildings are decked out in Holiday splendor, with twinkling lights and wreathes. Bubbles float down from the American Exchange Hotels' balcony and give the feeling of snowflakes. Vintage lighted Garland sways high above over Main Street and the classic Store front windows are decorated and displaying unique gift ideas.

The parade starts at 6:30p.m. on the North end of Sutter Creek and will last about an hour and a half. There is plenty of parking downtown, just don't park on Main Street, so everyone will have a good view of this wonderful parade! Remember to dress warm. Come early and enjoy the old town Holiday charm of Sutter Creek.

Cold Fighting Owari Satsuma Mandarins
Placer County Owari Satsuma mandarins offer high concentrations of the cold fighting phytochemical synephrine, as reported in 2008 by the USDA’s Department of Agriculture and published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. According to the study of mandarins grown in the Placer County orchards, synephrine concentrations were found to be up to six times higher than values previously determined for orange juices.

About Mountain Mandarin Growers’ Association (MMGA)
More than 30 mandarin growers throughout Placer County make up the Mountain Mandarin Growers’ Association. From Auburn to Loomis, Lincoln to Penryn and Newcastle, Ca., the warm days and cool nights make it the perfect place to grow this sweet, seedless, popular fruit. The MMGA’s goal as an organization is “To provide quality mandarins and expand markets to support local agriculture.” The public is encouraged to visit the orchards during harvest season from mid-November through January each year.

G.A.T.E. STUDENTS WORK TOGETHER IN "CREATIVE BUILDING" ACTIVITY

A unique and challenging program to engage G.A.T.E. students ages nine to eleven, “Creative Building,” pairs visual art techniques with construction planning processes.

Participants will collaborate with fellow G.A.T.E. students to envision and build towns made of recycled materials at Blue Line Gallery. Students will then use their towns as the setting to create a clay animation film. “Creative Building” is an exercise in team building, expanding the creative mind and technical skill.

Each group will be appointed a mayor to help direct and oversee the construction of their town. To gain insight into the process of building a successful community, students will have the opportunity to meet with Roseville’s own Mayor Susan Rohan during instruction on Saturday, December 15th.

Rebecca Toto, Director of Instruction, Assessment & Intervention said of partnering with Blue Line Gallery, "I am so glad that we can work together to provide our Gifted and Talented learners an outside opportunity that allows them to be creative and expand their learning opportunities.  These students thrive on stretching their minds and this class allowed them to learn from others, use their creativity, and also created a sense of teamwork for them while they completed the project.  "

Rich Pierucci, Superintendent of the Roseville City School District says, "We are excited about the partnership with the Blue Line Gallery in providing opportunities for our GATE students to expand their creative problem solving experiences using the medium of art."

  • WHEN: Saturday, December 15th, 9a.m.-3:30p.m.
  • WHERE: 405 Vernon Street, Suite 100, Roseville
