El Dorado Master Gardeners' Free Organic Gardening Class

UCCE / El Dorado County Master Gardener Class is offering Organic Gardening 1 on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. – noon.

This informative class is free to the public!

Learn about soil, composting and organic fertilizer.  Master Gardener Virginia Feagans will teach you how to have a productive garden without the use of inorganic fertilizers or synthetic pesticides.

The class will be held at the Veterans Memorial Building, 130 Placerville Drive, Placerville.

McLaughlin Studios Presents Smile The Musical Auditions

McLaughlin Theatre Company is revving up their 2013 Summer production schedule with Smile The Musical, scheduled to kick-start auditions the first week of April.

This touching and satiric musical by the creators of Little Shop of Horrors, A Chorus Line and They're Playing Our Song, follows the intrigue and exploits on stage and behind-the-scenes as Santa Rosa, California plays host to the Young American Miss Pageant.

Young actors should prepare themselves to make their audience laugh and maybe even shed some tears as they take them on a wild ride through what some may believe is an actual pageant, not just a show.

Characters range from Gina Minelli, a laid back and drama free surfer girl who is a contestant from San Luis Obispo to Heidi Anderson, a contestant from Anaheim who is obsessed with Disneyland, and brags about all the movie stars she lives near.

Auditions are open to any child age 6+, teen or adult that is looking to add some fun to their summer, experience to their resume, or both!   Beginning on April 5th at 7p.m., actors will perform one minute of a Broadway song that they have prepared beforehand, bringing along either a CD or sheet music.  There is no monologue preparation required!

McLaughlin Studios is excited to be able to bring this fun and upbeat musical to Placer County, and to give our creative community members the opportunity to grow as actors, dancers and musicians.

  • April 6th - 11a.m. & 12p.m.
  • April 12th - 7p.m. & 8p.m.
  • Call Backs: April 13th - 2p.m. & 4p.m.

Help Local Students Go To College With El Dorado Center's Patron Club Annual Luncheon

Help local students go to college and have fun at the same time! Come join the El Dorado Center of Folsom Lake College Patrons Club's 47th Annual Scholarship Luncheon; to be held on Friday, April 26, 12 noon, at the Cold Springs Community Church, 2600 Cold Springs Road, Placerville.

Looking for good food, great college entertainment, hanging with friends, laughter, a lively action via a silent auction and many terrific items in major and minor raffles?  You can have all this while supporting a good cause:  Scholarships are for local students to attend Folsom Lake College at the El Dorado Center in Placerville.  Last year the El Dorado Center Patrons Club offered 10 scholarships at $750 each.

Luncheon tickets are $12 each and major raffle tickets are only $1.  Additional lunch tickets, major raffle tickets, and minor raffle tickets (three for $1) may be purchased at the door.  Tickets may be purchased from any Patrons Member, or the El Dorado Center Administration Office (upstairs) at 6699 Campus Drive, Placerville.  For more information, contact Bobbye at 530.621.0907 or Barbara at 530.622.5021.

This FREE food and wine event will delight the senses. Guests can stroll through the beautiful grounds of nine wineries, taste a variety of wines, listen to live music, experience all the blooming flowers and enjoy special treats.

Folsom History Museum's New Exhibit Weaves The Past Into The Future

Folsom History Museum, in cooperation with Hangtown Fibers Guild, announces the opening of a colorful new exhibit, Weaving the Past Into the Future.

Antique implements help tell the story of textile construction from the 18th century to the present. Displays trace the history of yarn production, weaving, and hand techniques such as knitting, and the exhibit will feature ongoing demonstrations. Contemporary fiber arts will also be represented.

The exhibit runs from March 30 through May 19.

Located in the heart of historic old town, Folsom History Museum includes Pioneer Village, an outdoor living history venue featuring panning, a working blacksmith, and the oldest freight depot of its era still standing west of the Mississippi. Permanent exhibits at the museum at 823 Sutter Street tell the story of Folsom’s part in the California Gold Rush. The museums are open from 11a.m. to 4p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays.

Join El Dorado County Young Life Run For Camp!

El Dorado County Young Life presents their 1st Annual Run For Camp!

This fundraiser will raise funds to send kids to summer camp that might otherwise not have the means to go.

The event will be held on May 18th at Cielo Estate, 3040 Ponderosa Road, in Shingle Springs. Registration starts at 8a.m, and the race begins at 9a.m.

Registration is $25, $30 on race day. The cost includes a pancake breakfast and a chance to win great raffle prizes and awards!

 5k and 2k Run/Walk options are available.

All donations are 100% tax deductible, and will go directly to students' camp fee.

Stanford Youth Solutions Presents Vintage 2013

Stanford Youth Solutions, formerly Stanford Home for Children, presents Vintage 2013, its 8th annual signature event on April 25th.

Join them for this year’s vintage to positively impact nearly 2,400 young people and family members who utilize their programs and services annually.

Vintage 2013 goes green! The color green symbolizes healthy relationships, nature, balance and sustainability. This year, a fun twist on the color green highlights Stanford’s new brand and the lasting evolution of the youth and families they serve.

Your invited you to compliment your favorite outfit with a bit of green to show your support of Stanford’s mission and your commitment to well being, harmony and a healthy life. By participating in Vintage 2013, you will be giving the gift of healthy relationships to challenged youth and their families.

Vintage 2012 was hailed the event of the year, and this year’s Vintage promises to be even better. Enjoy an evening with a cool vibe showcasing not-to-be-missed experiences with eclectic beverages and bites in themed rooms — the Sky Bar with cocktails in the clouds, the tranquility of the Rain Forest with a live giving tree, or rock and roll in their version of Red Rocks.
