Everyone here at Style Media Group is most thankful to all of our Veterans and honor them today, Veterans Day for their devotion, sacrifice and service to our country.On a personal note, I'd like to take a quick moment to thank my favorite Veteran, my dad, Walt.
My dad probably won't like this photo very much, but it's the only one in his uniform that I could find. It's circa 1969 and shows my maternal grandfather Pete Waite, along with my mom Bev (my dad's former wife) and of course my dad looking quite handsome in his uniform.
As I've been told the story, in the early '60s my dad enlisted in the Air Force. He was from a rural part of Kentucky -- his family was from very humble (read poor) roots, and he knew that the only way he would get a college education was through military service.
My dad was a career military man -- he served proudly in the Air Force until retiring in 1982. He also got his college degree that same year -- he was the first person from his family to get a college degree. I am tremendously proud of my dad for both of these honors (and many others!).
I thank my dad for his service, and I'm honored to be an Air Force brat!
