Dressed in 19th century period attire, men and women will passionately debate the controversial topic of women’s suffrage. In addition, visitors to Old Sacramento may chance upon Living History characters as they roam the streets urging women to take up the vote.
The origins of “Women’s History Month” as a national celebration date back to 1981 when Congress identified a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1995, the celebration was expanded to the entire month and the tradition continues.
