Sacramento Museums Celebrate The Season With Family-Friendly Festivals!

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science and wildlife treasures all year long.

In April, many of the 30 members of Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) are celebrating the season with a diverse variety of family-friendly festivals, a sampling of which follows:

Children’s Theater Festival at Fairytale Town - Every Weekend in April
Come one, come all...Fairytale Town will showcase a diverse selection of theater performances for children and families each weekend in April for the Children's Theater Festival! Performing companies include the Fairytale Town Troupers, Shadow Puppet Theatre, Boxtales Theatre Company, Roseville Theatre Arts Academy and more. Earth Fest - Party for the Planet at the Sacramento Zoo - April 6
It’s a party for the planet! Visitors will learn how to protect and preserve the earth with environmental, wildlife and conservation organizations. Zoo guests will explore animal bio-artifacts, participate in storytelling and activities in the Discovery Room, come face-to-face with the outreach animals and listen to keepers present enrichment talks.  For more, call 916-808-5888 or visit saczoo.org.

Celebrate the Earth Festival at the Roseville Utility Exploration Center - April 20
Everyone is welcome at this annual -- and free -- family-friendly event, sponsored by Roseville Electric and the Environmental Utilities, Whole Foods Market in Roseville and hosted at the Utility Exploration Center.  Don’t miss a day of fun-filled day of food, live music, local green vendors, electric vehicles, and family entertainment!  For more information, call 916-746-1550 or visit roseville.ca.us/explore.

Artisan Shopping Weekend at the State Indian Museum & Sutter’s Fort - April 19*, 20 & 21
Amid a bustling festival atmosphere, visitors will meet artisan crafters while browsing through the “Traders’ Faire - California’s First Mall” at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park and checking out the unique gifts and collectibles at the State Indian Museum’s spring time “Indian Arts & Crafts Market.”  For more, call 916-445-4422 or 916-324-0971, or visit suttersfort.org or parks.ca.gov/indianmuseum.
*Note only the Traders’ Faire at Sutter’s Fort will be open on Friday, April 19, with a focus on education.

Yomen: A Spring Celebration at the Maidu Museum & Historic Site – April 28
Bring the entire family to celebrate our biggest event of the year! Come to our Yomen and experience California Indian culture. Enjoy the opening blessing, tribal dance groups, traditional art and craft demonstrations, guided trail tours, native storytelling, children's activities and craft fair.
