Rocklin’s RRUFF Dog Park to Receive a $2,000 Grant for Park Enhancements

The Nutro Company, a leading manufacturer of natural pet food products, has announced that Rocklin’s RRUFF Dog Park (5480 5th St.) has been selected to receive a $2,000 grant on behalf of the ROOM TO RUN™ Dog Appreciation Project.

ROOM TO RUN™ is a community program designed to support public, non-profit dog parks and off-leash areas. The grant provided to RRUFF Dog Park will be used to help make improvements that will provide local dogs and their owners with an enhanced interaction space.

Victoria Bottini Curtis, Rocklin resident, and founder and president of Rocklin Residents Unite for Fido (RRUFF), submitted the winning application. “ROOM TO RUN is a perfect match for us because even though we are open and very busy, we have few enhancements for our park users. This grant will allow RRUFF to make much needed improvements to our grounds so they will be safe and clean for both dogs and their people,” said Curtis. “Dog parks provide a safe place in communities for both dogs and their people to exercise and socialize. A local dog park also gives residents a sense of belonging, and promotes new friendships and cooperation. The residents of Rocklin have shown their support for our dog park and we are now able to show them our appreciation for that support by making their park the best park ever.”

Since ROOM TO RUN™ began in 2010, more than 3,000 hours have been committed to enhancing 60 dog parks across the U.S. and Canada. This year, 30 dog parks nationwide will receive grants from the program. “Having clean and safe outdoor areas for dogs to exercise and play is essential to their health and happiness, and that is something we at The Nutro Company believe in strongly,” said Kent Cunningham, vice president of marketing for The Nutro Company. “The improvements that will be made with these grants will help give dogs and their owners an enhanced natural space to play and bond.”

To learn more about the ROOM TO RUN™ Dog Park Appreciation Project, visit The Nutro Company’s Community Initiatives page at nutro.com/about-us/community-initiatives.aspx or find them on Facebook at facebook.com/NutroProducts (and click the ROOM TO RUN™ tab).

Vote for Your City in the "We Hear You American" campaign!

Flipping through a Reader's Digest gives us a little moment of nostalgia. And that's why we were excited to hear about the "We Hear You America campaign," the national, grassroots initiative meant to empower Americans to help their local communities by casting votes online for their hometown.

Last year’s program touched 50% of the cities, towns, and villages in the United States, 110 of which received funds and promotional support for needed community projects and civic initiatives.

To date, the program has helped fund and promote quality-of-life projects ranging from building a new municipal pool in Genoa, Nebraska, to expanding a public library in Ainsworth, Nebraska, to replacing fire hydrants in Boley, Oklahoma, to developing a skate and bike park in Armada, Michigan, to repairing a city art gallery in Manchester, New Hampshire, to bringing back 4th of July fireworks in Jackson, Illinois.

It’s easy for people to vote for a town. Go online, log on to ReadersDigest.com, type in the name of the town, and click on the word “Vote.” People may cast as many votes as they like. While on the site, individuals are encouraged to upload photos of their towns, describe the needs of their communities, and talk about why where they live is the best place in America. The We Hear You America campaign will provide support to the towns receiving the most votes, including being featured in the Reader’s Digest annual Best of America issue and on ReadersDigest.com. Communities participating in the initiative may also be featured in Reader’s Digest and on ReadersDigest.com during 2012.

Happy Voting for your city!

Rocklin Community Theatre in association with the City of Rocklin's Theatre and Arts Program is proud to present "The Pajama Game."

The dangers of a workplace romance are explored to hysterical effect in "The Pajama Game," a romantic comedy from the creators of Damn Yankees. Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful, as sparks fly between new superintendent Sid Sorokin and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7½-cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well. Included in the score are familiar tunes such as Hey, There (You with the Stars in Your Eyes), Hernando's Hideaway, and Steam Heat.

The cast is made up of local talent and the show will be performed with a live orchestra at the Finnish Temperance Hall, 4090 Rocklin Road in Rocklin.
