Sacramento Museum Day Returns!

Mark your calendars for February 4 since 28 Sacramento area museums will offer free or half-priced admission all day. This will be the 14th Sacramento Museum Day and last year saw record-breaking attendance of more than 115,000 visitors!

Sacramento Museum Day event hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with the last guests admitted at 4 p.m.).

And while shuttle busses will not be operating this year, several museums are within walking distance of each other and easily accessible via public transportation. Event coordinators suggest that guests plan to visit no more than two or three different museums on this day in order to allow adequate time to enjoy the experience and to travel between individual sites.

As an added treat on Sacramento Museum Day, free ice cream will be provided by Umpqua Bank volunteers (while supplies last) at three locations as follows: 10 a.m. at Fairytale Town, noon at the California State Railroad Museum and 2 p.m. at the Aerospace Museum of California.

This year the Sacramento Zoo is offering half price tickets at $5.50 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 2-11 and free for children under two; Fairytale Town is $2.25 for everyone and free for children under two years of age.

Get more info at www.sacmuseums.org (click on "Events"), or by calling the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau at (916) 808-7777.

Sacramento Restaurant Named in Best Wine List in the Country!

We at Style were pretty proud when we found out that Sacramento's own Enotria Restaurant and Wine Bar made the 2011 Diners' Choice top 50 best wine lists of the country!

Not to mention it beat out San Francisco and wine country restaurants...

We say kudos to the entire team at Enotria and general manager Michael Coyne Jr.

The Choice Award is derived from more than 10 million reviews submitted by OpenTable diners for more than 12,000 restaurants in all 50 states.

Diners are invited to share which restaurants they consider to have the most "Notable Wine Lists."

Coyne said that the award is even more gratifying since they were recognized by Sacramento diners.

Congrats Enotria!

Get artistic... It's ARTOBER in Sacramento!

Right now the Sacramento region is celebrating ARTOBER: 31 days of art and soul in celebration of October as National Arts and Humanities Month. It's a month-long spotlight on the talents and arts resources of the region featuring festivals, performances, art walks, special events and a host of partnerships between businesses
and the arts.

We won't deny that our art scene is pretty vibrant, featuring musical theatre and music of every kind. Not to mention our amazing museums and galleries.

The events so far have been a smash, so check out what else is going on this month!

October 15 Midtown Modern Arts Festival will take place on 20th Street between J & K Streets and will showcase art, music, dance, and every medium in-between.

October 26 For Arts’ Sake will hold its Coalition Meeting at the Guild Theatre. This free event, featuring guest artist Synthia St. James, will be an opportunity to learn about the For Arts’ Sake implementation results to date, and to see and hear stories about ARTOBER activities from around the region.

And .... there are even more around the region – including performances, film festivals, choreography competitions, openings of new theatres, tours of the new airport public art, literary activities, gallery walks, and more. In addition artists are encouraged to take to the social media world and invent informal trunk shows, house concerts and special partnerships to showcase work in unusual neighborhood venues.

"Destruction Party" at Capitol Bowl

Capitol Bowl in West Sacramento is getting a big makeover and is inviting everyone to come for a special bowling extravaganza this Friday.

Kick off for construction will start soon and patrons are encouraged to leave special messages on a wall that will be included in the new design. How awesome is that!

Capitol Bowl has entertained the West Sacramento community since the 1950s when it was known as the El Rancho Bowl. The remodeling is taking a whole new sleek look, so it's great to see they are keeping a little nostalgia too!

The party is also a fundraiser for Special Olympics of Northern California. Capitol Bowl is located at 900 West Capitol Ave. in West Sacramento.
