Upcoming Auditions at Folsom Lake College's Three Stages

If you love theater, you should definitely consider getting involved yourself. The Falcon's Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College is calling for actors from the community to audition September 6 for its fall production of The Good Person of Szechwan, Bertolt Brecht’s engaging parable.

The story line follows a young woman, who is forced into prostitution by poverty, is rewarded handsomely after opening her home to three visiting gods. By disproving the gods’ contention that no goodness still exists on earth, the woman is given a small business by the gods, and from there she struggles to work honestly and to provide for the needy. After falling victim to unscrupulous neighbors and a dishonest lover, she is forced to create a fierce, manipulative, and efficient alter-ego - that of her strong-willed business-savvy male “cousin.” Will the forces of capitalism overwhelm her, or will she maintain her goodness in a world of corruption?

Audition Date:
Tuesday, September 6, 6:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

Audition Location: Auditions will take place in the Drama Lab (PAC-1170) of the Three Stages Performing Arts Center on the Folsom campus of Folsom Lake College, 10 College Parkway (off E. Bidwell St.), Folsom, 95630. For a map, go to www.flc.losrios.edu and click on “Maps” (then select “Main Folsom campus”). On College Parkway, turn left at the stop sign. One dollar parking permits are available at kiosks located throughout the parking lots.

Auditioners MUST prepare a monologue that is no more than 90-seconds-long from any stage play. This monologue should best portray the actor’s strengths and can be of any genre, but must be from a play written for the stage. This monologue must be memorized. Auditioners who are called back will also be asked to audition by way of cold readings from the text. Auditions are expected to run until approximately 10pm. It is requested that auditioners bring an 8x10 photo-headshot and resume of acting experience, if available, but this is not required.

Rehearsal Dates: September 12 through October 27, evenings and some weekend afternoons. Significant conflicts with these dates are not allowed.

Performance Dates: October 28 through November 13, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Additional performances are Saturday, November 5 at 2pm and Thursday, November 10 at 8pm. Performances will be held at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College in Stage 2, the City Studio Theater.

Get ready for some "Nunsense"

Sutter Street has a few awesome shows hitting the stage soon.

And tonight is the opening performance of a show with some high-church, habit hilarity.

Nunsense is a show about a fund raiser put on by the Little Sisters of Hoboken to raise money to bury sisters accidently poisened by the convent cook, Sister Julis (Child of God). It's a zany musical not to miss.

It's also a winner of four Outer Circle Critics Awards including Best Off Broadway Musical in it's original New York production.

TIMES: Friday & Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 4:00pm

And also opening on March 26...

Noodle Doodle Box is a delightfully absurd play for young children. It is about two clowns, Zacharias and Pepper, who are constantly squabbling, both verbally and physically. Then along comes the mysterious Drum Major, a trickster who makes the clowns re-evaluate their friendship. Lessons about authority and relationships are portrayed with wacky slapstick comedy that

TIME: Saturday at 4:00pm

And then opening on April 2...
The Musical, a story about Evan Goldman who is forced to move from New York to a small town in Indiana when his parents divorce. He just wants to make friends and survive the school year; easier said than done. The star quarterback threatens to ruin his life and his only friend, Patrice, won't talk to him. The school freak sees an opportunity for blackmail and someone is spreading the nastiest rumors.

It's a great song and dance show highlighting issues readily familiar to high school students. Be prepared for hilarity and high-energy.

TIME: Saturday & Sunday at 1:00pm -- Recommended for 10 years old and older.
