Walk and Bike with the California Volkssport Association!

Now that the weather is looking up, check out these great upcoming walking/biking events in the area. The great news is that they are free (donations are welcome!)

There will be three different walks and also a bike event; everyone can come and join in on the noncompetitive, self-paced events (even the family dog!).

The start location for all events will be the Lake Natoma Inn, 702 Gold Lake Dr, Folsom 95630. Two of the walks and the bike event will start from the hotel and the Humbug-Willow Creek walk will start at a nearby park so a short drive is necessary. There is a 2 x 4” award that people can purchase to commemorate the event—a lovely embroidered patch that will cost $4.00.

Friday, April 29
(Register between 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, Finish by 5:30 pm)
Humbug-Willow Creek walk—there will be a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 10K (6.2 miles) route to choose from and they are rated a 1+. Participants will drive to nearby Elvie Perazzo Briggs Park and walk on paved trails that take you through wonderful wetlands and a bird refuge area. Wheelchairs and strollers would have no difficulty; restrooms are along the trail.
Bike event—there will be a 25K (15 miles) route that is rated a 2+. Participants will ride along beautiful Lake Natoma and the Humbug-Willow Creek bike trails, traveling through wetlands and along the winding creek. Minimal city streets are used, helmets must be worn.

Saturday, April 30
(Register between 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon, Finish by 3:00 pm)
Lake Natoma walk—there will be a 5K and 10K route to choose from, rated a #2. It follows the path of the old town of Folsom and because of the hills, it is not recommended for wheelchairs or strollers. Restrooms are available at the start/finish.

Sunday, May 1
(Register between 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon, Finish by 3:00 pm)
Path to the Past walk—there will be a 5K and 10K route to choose from and this is rated a 2+. Participants will visit the old cemeteries of the early pioneers and the Chinese laborers that built the town of Folsom. You'll walk along historic Sutter Street and by the homes of the early powerbrokers of Folsom. The 10K route is on paved trails and dirt paths and as you leave the trestle bridge you’ll be able to view the infamous Folsom Prison. The 5K route is OK for strollers, the 10K route is not recommended for strollers or wheelchairs. Restrooms are available at the start/finish.

The Sacramento Walking Sticks are the largest volkssporting club in the entire USA with over 500 members. The Sticks are an active walking club with group walks scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday morning as well as every Wednesday evening plus they participate in weekend walk adventures all over northern and central California.
