New Developments for the Old Rail Corridor!

The El Dorado County Supervisors are pushing ahead with some exciting new developments regarding the Old Rail Corrider.

Monday’s Trails workshop changed the direction on the SPTC Corridor for the first time in 15 years. The Supervisors voted 4 to 1 for the ‘Shingle Compromise’ that will allow an extended train run from Shingle Springs to Missouri Flat Road. They also voted to make hiking, biking, and equestrian trails the priority use from Shingle Springs to the county line and instructed county staff to explore the feasibility, legality and or other alternatives of pulling up the rails for a trail conversion from Shingle Springs to the Western County Line.

The Shingle Plan is a compromise that will allow both rail and trail groups to work together and build the El Dorado Trail. Train supporters will get 8 miles of track they can call their own and will be the home they have been working toward for 15 years.

Trail groups will be able to pull up tracks from Shingle Springs to the Western County line and will immediately create a trail of Regional Significance. The city trail in Placerville and this important connection with Folsom and the American River Parkway will create a Regional Trail System. The cost to build the trail can be offset by the salvage value of the rails and ties which means a low or no cost trail for El Dorado County.

It's good to hear all this great development regarding the trail!
