The Heart Walk brings communities together to help achieve this goal. Lack of physical activity is one of the leading contributors of heart disease and stroke. Walking is a step toward better health! Why Walking?  Because walking is free, easy, and has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity.  It’s the simplest positive change individuals can make to effectively improve their heart health.

Research has shown that the benefits of walking and physical activity for only 30 minutes a day include:
• Reduced risk of coronary heart disease and stroke
• Lower blood pressure
• Reduction of high cholesterol and improved blood lipid profile
• Reduced body fat
• Enhanced mental well being
• Increased bone density, which helps to prevent osteoporosis
• Reduced risk of cancer
• Reduced risk of non-insulin-dependent diabetes
• Lots and lots of fun!

About the American Heart Association:
The American Heart Association is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke – America’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers. They team with millions of volunteers to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these diseases. The Dallas-based association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. To learn more or to get involved, call 1-800-AHA-USA1, visit heart.org or call any of  their offices around the country.
