New Exhibit Opening At Folsom History Museum

"A Bundle of Joy" is this year's theme for the popular summer quilt and clothing show in the Wells Fargo Gallery at Folsom History Museum.

Antique children's quilts and vintage crib quilts featuring whimsical designs will be displayed alongside full-size anniversary and wedding quilts at the 35th annual exhibit.

Showcased are Victorian-era christening gowns, hand-sewn and embroidered infant and children's clothing, and antique and vintage toys. Wedding dresses and women's at-home attire will add to a picture of family life from by-gone eras.

The exhibit runs from May 31 through August 31, 2014. The museum is located in the heart of historic old town Folsom at 823 Sutter Street.

The collection in Folsom Heritage Gallery tells the story of early Folsom inhabitants and the California Gold Rush. Nearby Pioneer Village is an outdoor living history venue with blacksmith demonstrations and panning for kids.

The museums are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Free parking is available on the street and at the nearby city garage. For more information go to folsomhistorymuseum.org.

Four-Time Tony Award Memphis Is Coming To Harris Center

Critically acclaimed MEMPHIS won four 2010 Tony(r) Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score (David Bryan and Joe DiPietro); four Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Music (David Bryan) and four Outer Critic Circle Awards including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Score (David Bryan & Joe DiPietro) and Outstanding Choreography (Sergio Trujillo).

Now this multi-award winning production is making a limited stop at Harris Center for the Arts. "MEMPHIS is Mighty, Magnificent, Miraculous...ingenious staging and direction, energizing, fresh, and joyful choreography and an infectious dynamite score!" said the Houston Chronicle.  "MEMPHIS is a Masterpiece!" exclaimed BroadwayWorld.com.

MEMPHIS takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50's, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun fell in love with everything he shouldn't: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer. MEMPHIS is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever. Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves - filled with laughter, vibrant choreography and roof-raising rock 'n' roll.

MEMPHIS will be performed on Friday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at 2 & 7:30 p.m, Sunday, May 25, at 1:30 p.m. (Open Captioned Performance) and again at 7 p.m. (Sign Interpreted Performance). Tickets are $45-$65; Premium $75. Tickets are available online at harriscenter.net or from Harris Center Ticket Office at 916-608-6888 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show time. Parking is included in the price of the ticket. Harris Center is located on the west side of Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, facing East Bidwell Street.
