Nominate Your Child's School to Receive a $5,000 Grant!
We were so excited to hear (just in time for the new school year) Raley’s Family of Fine Stores is partnering with Unilever to provide $25,000 in grants to local schools. Through the Raley’s Reach program, the regional, family-operated grocer is once again placing the money in the hands of the community to determine which schools will receive grants. Through participant nominations and votes, five $5,000 grants will be awarded by region to K-12 schools to benefit their back-to-school needs.
From Aug. 17 - Sept. 2, local PTAs, booster clubs, parents and community members are invited to nominate a deserving school to receive a $5,000 grant at www.raleys.com/reach. Then, beginning Sept. 6-23, it will be up to the online community to log on and cast their votes for the school that they would like to see benefit from one of the grants. Winners will be announced Sept. 30.
There's not much time left, so be sure and vote quick!
The five regions are defined by geographic location:
Region 1 – Northern Region (Nevada): Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Humboldt and Washoe counties
Region 2 – Foothill Region (California): Butte, Shasta, Siskiyou, Nevada, Sutter and Tehama counties
Region 3 – Greater Sacramento Region (California): Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo counties
Region 4 – Central Valley Region (California): Madera, Merced, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties
Region 5 – Greater Bay Region (California): Alameda, Contra Costa, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Sonoma counties
The top school with the most votes in each Reach-Region will receive $5,000 to put toward their stated back-to-school need. Whether it’s filling the school library with new books, providing access to new physical education equipment or purchasing art supplies for classrooms – the possibilities are endless!
The Raley’s Reach program was first launched in May of 2010 in honor of Raley’s 75th Anniversary. To date, Raley’s Reach has awarded more than $90,000 in grants to 15 community projects throughout Northern California and Nevada.

Upcoming Auditions at Folsom Lake College's Three Stages
If you love theater, you should definitely consider getting involved yourself. The Falcon's Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College is calling for actors from the community to audition September 6 for its fall production of The Good Person of Szechwan, Bertolt Brecht’s engaging parable.
The story line follows a young woman, who is forced into prostitution by poverty, is rewarded handsomely after opening her home to three visiting gods. By disproving the gods’ contention that no goodness still exists on earth, the woman is given a small business by the gods, and from there she struggles to work honestly and to provide for the needy. After falling victim to unscrupulous neighbors and a dishonest lover, she is forced to create a fierce, manipulative, and efficient alter-ego - that of her strong-willed business-savvy male “cousin.” Will the forces of capitalism overwhelm her, or will she maintain her goodness in a world of corruption?
Audition Date: Tuesday, September 6, 6:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
Audition Location: Auditions will take place in the Drama Lab (PAC-1170) of the Three Stages Performing Arts Center on the Folsom campus of Folsom Lake College, 10 College Parkway (off E. Bidwell St.), Folsom, 95630. For a map, go to www.flc.losrios.edu and click on “Maps” (then select “Main Folsom campus”). On College Parkway, turn left at the stop sign. One dollar parking permits are available at kiosks located throughout the parking lots.
Auditioners MUST prepare a monologue that is no more than 90-seconds-long from any stage play. This monologue should best portray the actor’s strengths and can be of any genre, but must be from a play written for the stage. This monologue must be memorized. Auditioners who are called back will also be asked to audition by way of cold readings from the text. Auditions are expected to run until approximately 10pm. It is requested that auditioners bring an 8x10 photo-headshot and resume of acting experience, if available, but this is not required.
Rehearsal Dates: September 12 through October 27, evenings and some weekend afternoons. Significant conflicts with these dates are not allowed.
Performance Dates: October 28 through November 13, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Additional performances are Saturday, November 5 at 2pm and Thursday, November 10 at 8pm. Performances will be held at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College in Stage 2, the City Studio Theater.
For more info call (916) 608-6800 or go to falconseyetheatre.com for more information.
