Julie Serences of the Xerces Society will present a talk about bees, their challenges and how you can help them in your home garden. Local botanist, Bonnie Ross, will lead an interactive and hands-on children’s walk. And Davis landscape designer, Bernadette Balics, will lead a garden tour that showcases pollinator-attractive native plants for the home garden.
“With a collection of over 120 species of native plants, the California Native Plant Demonstration Garden has a wonderfully large and varied bee population. Incorporating some key California native plants in the home garden will provide a rich source of food for our native bees as well as European honeybees. Designing a garden with bees in mind will also help support their populations,” says garden coordinator and landscape architect, Cassandra Nguyen Musto.
Visitors can take guided or self-guided walks among the summer blooms, chat with plant experts, enjoy refreshments, purchase bee houses made from reused materials, buy pollinator attractive wildflower seeds, books and more. Kids and grownups alike can examine a bee collection or participate in fun bee activities.
This event is free. Donations happily accepted to help support the cemetery restoration and garden activities.
Free parking is located across the street from the 10th Street Gate on Broadway. Limited parking is located within the cemetery. Enter at Broadway and 10th Street and follow the signs to the California Native Plant Demonstration Garden.
