Join Snap Fitness in Fighting Breast Cancer!

For the month of October, Snap Fitness of El Dorado Hills has a new opportunity for runners to raise money to fight breast cancer by using their newly installed PINK 625T treadmill from Cybex. For every mile logged, money will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Snap Fitness has set a goal to log 3,000 miles and raise at least $3,000 dollars during the month-long event. Community members are invited to come in and participate in the effort whether they are a club member or not. Running is not a requirement; walkers are equally welcome! Each participant will receive a pink-related token to acknowledge their efforts in meeting the goals and saving lives.

Statistically, every 13 minutes a woman dies from breast cancer, however, if it is detected in its
early stages, the 5-year survival rate is greater than 95%. Most are not aware that it is a
condition that strikes both men and women. In 2009, a local EDH resident and Snap
Fitness/EDH member died from breast cancer – and he was only 52.

But that's not all. They are also hosting several fundraising and awareness events for October too. So mark these dates on your calendar!

The month kicks-off with a ‘3K Lunch Launch’ on Saturday, October 1, from 11:30 a.m-1:30 p.m. This free event will supply attendees with food, information, and the opportunity to sign-up as a participating team member.

And for those who love a little latin dancing, two “Party in Pink” Zumbathons will be held on Sunday, September 25 from 2-4 p.m., and Saturday, October 15 from 7-9 p.m. One hundred percent of the $10 per person entry fee will be donated to the cause.

We hope everyone will get out to Snap and log those miles!

Debra Tries Cardio Kickboxing!

Ok, well, in the spirit of the feature editorial for our January Style Magazine issues, I decided to (or was coaxed into) taking a cardio kickboxing class.

The Studio is a brand new facility in Granite Bay which features not only cardio kickboxing but Zumba classes, martial arts, Yoga, Belly Dancing and more.

It’s owned by local Taekwondo Champion Amitis Pourarian. She is a sixth degree black belt and a former member of the U.S. World Cup Taekwondo Team. She is amazing, and the class was awesome. It’s called the ACKC class which stand for Amitis’s Cardio Kick-Ass Class, and it certainly did that to me!

I consider myself in pretty good shape -- I got through the class without falling apart, but when I woke up this morning I was feeling the pain (yeah, I know, it’s a good pain)! I am bound and determined to get rid of what my daughter calls my “flabbageness” on my arms. You know that part of your arm that keeps swinging even when you aren’t moving your arm? Yeah, if you are over 50 you know what I mean! (Editor's Note -- Terry, our publisher, calls them Bingo Arms!)

I felt energized and exhausted at the same time, and I can’t wait to go back for another class on Saturday. In the meantime I’m going to try Zumba tonight at The Studio. Stay tuned for more info on that -- that is, if I can raise my arms tomorrow to blog!!

No, not a picture of Debra...actually, a picture of Amitis at The Studio.
