El Dorado Hills Genealogical Society Meeting Wednesday

The El Dorado Hills Genealogical Society's next meeting is Wednesday, July 17, from 6-8p.m.

This month's speaker is Stephen P. Morse. The title of the discussion is "From DNA To Genetic Genealogy-Everything You Wanted to Know but Was Afraid to Ask".

Learn about the incredible breakthroughs in this young science and why it is important to genealogists. Learn what is known and what is yet to be discovered at their July meeting.

Meeting begins at 6:00pm for check in and seating, speaker begins at 6:15pm. Visitors are welcome!

EDHGS meets the 3rd Wednesday monthly, except in December, in the Community Room of the El Dorado Hills Branch Library, 7455 Silva Valley Parkway, El Dorado Hills. Meetings begin promptly at 6:15p.m. Arrive early at 6:00p.m. to talk to members.

Their member workshop is the first Tuesday of each month in the Community Room from 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. For more information contact EDHGS@yahoo.com.

FREE Master Gardener Class

Would you like to continue to harvest luscious, home-grown vegetables even after the heat of summer subsides?  If so, now is the time to plant for a fall and winter harvest.  Learn how to grow a successful winter vegetable garden from UC Master Gardener Zack Dowell.

  • Location:  TBA (Most classes given at Veterans Memorial Building, 130 Placerville Drive in Placerville, but please call or check website to confirm prior to attending.)

Volunteer Drivers Needed In The Cameron Park And Placerville Area

Do you want to make a difference?  Dedicated, caring volunteers are needed to deliver lunches weekdays and also check on the well-being of each participant of the El Dorado County Health & Human Services Home-Delivered Meals program. 

For many of the clients, the daily personal contact is as vital as the meal.  The Home-Delivered Meals program brings peace of mind to clients and their families. 

Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver meals one day per week in the Cameron Park and Placerville areas. 

Volunteers that are not available for a weekly commitment can offer their assistance as back-up drivers who fill in as needed for a regularly scheduled driver.

Folsom Dog Resort Hosting Fundrsaiser To Benefit Police K9 Association

Folsom Dog Resort & Training Center is celebrating our freedom and independence this July by honoring and giving back to the brave local Police K9's who serve our community and help keep us safe!

The Folsom Dog Resort is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the local Folsom Police K9 Association. You can help this wonderful cause by donating today - anything helps. FDR will be matching ALL donations!

Folsom Dog Resort will be accepting donations in the following ways:
  • In their front office - they'll be accepting cash, checks, or add your donation to your lodging or day care bill with a credit card.
  • Over the phone - give them a call today at (916) 439-7202 to donate over the phone with a credit card.
  • Email - you can email them at reservations@folsomdogresort.com to let them know how you wish to donate and someone will contact you.

Cowboys and Cornbread July 21st

Drive up, hitch up or giddy-up! It’s time for Cowboys and Cornbread, a day-long celebration of old-fashioned fun, food and friendly competition at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in  Placerville.

The event kicks off at 11a.m. on July 21st with Smokin’ for Gold Kansas City BBQ Competition with tasting, Chili Cook Off, Ranch Sorting Competition, Cornbread and Salsa Competition and Cowboy Church. 

There's live entertainment all day, Chuckwagon BBQ, free stage coach rides, cowboy poetry, candle making, gold panning, blacksmith demos, calvary exhibition and non-stop carry' on all day.

Buckaroos can get a hands-on taste of the cowboy life at the kiddy corral.  Don’t forget about Mutton Bustin where young cowboys and cowgirls ride sheep for fame and glory!

This regional event brings together some of the areas finest musicians of the mouth harp to vie for cash, prizes and the best bragging rights around. Cheer on your favorite musician at the Hangtown Harmonica Championship.  Try your hand at the Hangtown Horseshoe Tournament.  Wet your whistle with suds, wine or moonshine.

Starlight Starbright Hosts Trunk Show & Book Signing This Weekend

Join Starlight Starbright as they host their first American Girl style doll clothes trunk show Friday, July 12th, through Sunday, July 14th!

The doll clothes will be in the store available to purchase and take home with you.  If your little girl loves an outfit and wants to match her doll, they will order it in her size and it ships to them within 10-14 days!

The trunk show hours are Friday and Saturday from 10-6, and Sunday 11-5. 

To add to the fun, Starlight Starbright will also be hosting a book signing with local author Heather Rico on Saturday, July 13th, for debut of her book My Grateful Day.

Heather will be there in the late afternoon and early evening for a book signing, reading and more.
