Looking for a creative way to donate to the animals at the Placer SPCA? We’ve got the solution: join them at Jack’s Urban Eats pre-opening VIP event! 100% of the proceeds benefit the Placer SPCA.

On Saturday, September 15, Placer SPCA and Jack’s Urban Eats at the Fountains at Roseville will partner for a pre-opening VIP Event.  All sales generated between the hours of 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm will go to the Placer SPCA.

This urban eatery is a modern day hof brau (or cafeteria style restaurant) with made-to-order salads, fresh carved sandwiches (including Tri-tip and oven roasted turkey) and delicious sides (such as Mac and Cheese and freshly made mashed potatoes). As Jack’s Urban Eats fans will say, this casual, yet classy dining hot-spot serves the freshest fare around.

Style Checks out the New Yard House in Roseville!

On Friday, June 24, Style Media Group was invited to a special sneak-peek preview party at the Fountain’s newest restaurant addition, Yard House. With a menu featuring American fusion cuisine, the “world’s largest selection of draft beer,” flat-screen TVs decorating the walls and classic rock tunes blasting, it’s no wonder Yard House is dubbed the perfect place to “Eat – Drink – Chill.” The large space boasts indoor and outdoor dining areas with modern décor, a state-of-the-art sound system, and an oval bar in the center with over 120 beers on tap. On my recent visit, the energy was upbeat, service friendly, and food and drinks spot on.

We started with a round of beers and each sampled something different, including a Downtown Brown, Firestone Double Barrel and House Honey Blonde. All beers – from ales, lagers, ciders, beer blends and more – can be ordered in a goblet, pint, half yard or six pack sampler…something for every palate and level of thirst!

In between sips, we were served an array of bite-sized samplings from the menu. Favorites included the Seared Ahi Sashimi (lightly blackened and served with soy vinaigrette, wasabi and picked ginger), Spinach Cheese Dip (baked with feta, jack, Parmesan and cream cheese; served with crispy flatbread), and Grilled Korean BBQ Beef (boneless short ribs marinated in garlic, soy and brown sugar; served over jasmine rice).

Next up, I switched gears and tried the Southern Belle, one of the signature cocktails. Jeremiah sweet tea vodka was mixed with lemonade, fresh pineapple and sweet strawberries. The concoction was strong yet tasty, and incredibly refreshing on a hot summer’s evening! My guest gave the Silver Caddy a try and was equally impressed by Yard House’s take on a margarita.
Throughout the exclusive event, food continued to be delivered by the attentive wait staff, and we weren’t shy in putting our sampling skills to work. The classic cheeseburger melted in our mouths, and the Southern Fried Chicken Breast (served over spinach-corn mashed potatoes and bourbon gravy) also received rave reviews.

Although stuffed to the brim, we couldn’t resist trying the Mini Crème Brulee with carmelized bananas. An added surprise of chocolate ganache at the bottom was seriously delicious.

The Yard House is the ideal spot for after-work drinks, a lunch break while shopping at the Fountains, a birthday celebration or date night. You’ll be groovin’ to the music, oohing and aahing over the food and quenching your thirst in no time!

Have You Tried Sake House in Roseville Yet?

We recently asked Styler Cathy Carmichael to go try out Sake House. Cathy exuberantly took on the editorial challenge!

Here's what she had to say about her Sake House experience:

"My friend and I decided to check out the new Sake House restaurant at the Fountains in Roseville after work this past Friday night.

Surprisingly, it was not jam-packed on a Friday evening, so the hostess was able to seat us quickly.

As we walked through the very spacious building to our table in the back, I noticed that there was pleasant outdoor seating along the entire exterior of the building. Had it not been so hot outside, I would have opted to sit on the comfy-looking couches on the patio.

Inside, the décor was modern Japanese, all black walls and high open-ceilings, with only red accent candles on the tables. We passed a long inviting bar on one side of the room and a stainless-steel sushi bar just opposite.

Sake House offers the kind of casual atmosphere where you can go to directly from work and not feel like you have to go home first to change. The servers were friendly and efficient, bringing iced water as soon as we were seated, with our personal server stopping by to greet us just moments later. As she walked away to give us time to study the cocktail menu, the manager came by our table to make sure we had been attended to.

The cocktail menu was extensive, but all with one common ingredient – Sake! My friend ordered the “Lemon Sake Drop” and I decided to try something new, the “Citrus Mistress” which turned out to be a delicious and refreshing blend of fruit juices, flavored with Cointreau liqueur – and Sake!

For the beer lover, they offered an extensive menu, with both local and imports, along with several Japanese beers.

We learned from our server, that had we arrived a little earlier, we would have been privy to the Happy Hour specials that included half-off all drinks and sushi rolls, offered every day from 3 p.m. -6 p.m.

While we sipped our delicious cocktails, we perused the ample menu of fabulous choices including a long list of various sushi rolls, along with some great “small plate” options for the non-sushi lover, such as baby back beef ribs and shrimp tempura. It was a difficult choice with so many offerings, but we decided to try a few different things to share. We settled on the breezy roll, with tempura shrimp and crab, the grilled albacore tuna, and gyoza, a chicken and vegetable dumpling, or pot-sticker. Our food arrived quickly, everything colorfully and artfully prepared.

Since I am a non-sushi person, I was stepping outside my comfort level with the grilled on the outside/raw-like on the inside tuna, and with the sushi rolls which came topped, to our surprise, each with a slice of fresh raw scallop. However, I was up for the challenge, and decided that after trying and enjoying every bit of it, dipping each into their own delicious sauces, that I actually like sushi! Everything came in large, ample portions and was absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious, and we managed to eat every bite of it!

I would go back to the Sake House restaurant in a second! The great service, delicious food, and cool, comfortable atmosphere made it a memorable evening worth repeating! Maybe next time we’ll aim for the Happy Hour!"

Thanks Cathy!

If you want to enjoy Sake House for yourself, check them out at 1017 Galleria Boulevard in Roseville. 916-782-5040, sakehouseroseville.com.

Free Bread For a Year!

Yes, you read that right. Tomorrow at 9 a.m., Boudin Bakery will open its Roseville location in the Fountains shopping center and the first 100 customers in line will receive complimentary sourdough bread each day for a whole year.

Just imagine… that warm, soft San Francisco Sourdough French bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. Our mouths are already watering…

What time people are showing up, we aren’t sure. But if people are as hard-core about bread as about Harry Potter movies, there might be some camping out.

If you can’t be there at the opening, still stop by later and check out the on-premise bakery and restaurant, which features a three-day part menu.

For more information about Boudin and their online catalog, visit boudinbakery.com.

WHAT: Boudin’s Grand Opening
WHEN: Wednesday, August 26
WHERE: 1017 Galleria Blvd. Roseville
WHY: Be one of the first 100 people in line and receive free bread for a year.

The Fountains at Roseville's First Friday Street Fair and Concert Series

Just as Roseville’s Downtown Tuesday night street fair ends for the summer, the Fountains at Roseville steps up to fill the entertainment for as long as the warm nights continue.

Through September 30, the Fountains will host a “First Friday” street fair and Wednesday and Saturday night concerts from 7 to 9 p.m.

The First Friday features a farmers market, street fair, country-dance lessons, an on-stage dance exhibition and karaoke.

And if that wasn’t enough, every second Saturday through October, the Fountains host a Kids Club with entertainment crafts at 10 a.m. The August 8 event will feature back-to-school crafts and face painting.

So yes, I’m happy to report that the Fountains at Roseville has pretty much everything. But if we had to put in one wish list item, it would be that the stores didn't close quite so early! Come on, we're girls, and we like to shop!

Noodles has arrived in Roseville!

I first discovered Noodles & Company a few years ago when I was visiting my sister Wyn in Omaha, Nebraska.

Admittedly, I was instantly addicted -- my favorite? Penne Rosa, easy on the spice.

The bummer was, though, that the only time I could enjoy Noodles is when I would venture out to Omaha (not always the easiest travel destination from Sacramento!).

Then I heard that Noodles & Company was coming to The Fountains at Roseville and I immediately emailed my sister with shouts of joy! Today, in fact, is their OPENING DAY!!

Not only does Noodles have good food, they do good things for the community. In fact, on June 30th, they're hosting a benefit for the Roseville Firefighters Assocation where 100% of the sales will be donated. That's pretty darned cool!

So if you haven't tried Noodles, go soon! But, definitely go on June 30th from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. -- not only will you nourish your body, but by doing so, you'll help the community. But I warn you...you might get addicted to!

Please bring in the flyer (you can print out this blog I would think) or mention this fundraiser.

P.S. My birthday is this weekend and I'm off to Omaha to see Wyn. My birthday dinner request? Noodles in Omaha, of course.
