"It's the Journey Not the Destination" Show at Blue Line Gallery

Between now and January 8, be sure and stop by the Blue Line Gallery to view the work of Granite Bay students and local artists. The exhibit "It's the Journey, Not the Destination" features paintings by Danielle Johnson, Rebecca Fox, Cayley McDowell, Andrew Streter, Bryson Webb and Alexa Wolf, all advanced art students in Myron Stephens’ class at Granite Bay High School.

“My paintings explore the tension between wonderful dreams and the issues within everyday life,” said Johnson. Focusing on themes of freedom, change and identity, her creative narratives reveal natural landscapes and figures contrasted with abstract or pop art elements.

Sandra Boschert’s largescale painting, “Nostalgic Dream,” explores life’s journey in the figure of a reclining woman gracefully intertwined with the weaving path of a game board.

WHEN:
Exhibiting through January 8, Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Support Mugs with Hugs!!

During a season where we join with all our family and friends and are thankful to have them with us, it's easy to forget that some aren't able to...

That's why we at Style just love Mugs with Hugs, a non-profit outreach to the elderly in care facilities. Not only does it remind them that they are loved by those in the community, it fosters compassion in youth.

For the organization it's a chance to recognize the work of those who have gone before, appreciate the generosity of spirit and wisdom in the elderly and value and realize the need for interaction from generation to generation.

Currently 60% of residents in retirement homes in the US never receive a single visitor and Mugs for Hugs helps remedy that situation.

Children can bring a mug filled with teas and coffees and spend some time talking to residents in care homes in the Sacramento area.

If you are thinking about supporting some charities this winter, this is one to join!

Find out more information and how you can get involved by visiting their site. . .

The Buzz about Three Stages!

Style Media Group got a sneak peek at the brand new visual and performing arts center Three Stages at Folsom Lake College this morning. During the media tour, we checked out the art gallery, the recording studio, spacious educational facilities for lectures and art labs, and of course the Three Stages, which vary in size of 100, 200 or 850-seat theaters.

While the 80,000-square-foot facility wowed us from the moment we stepped into the lobby, it was the spring 2011 line-up of events that have us pumped for the grand opening next year. Featuring productions from around the world (Three Stages Presents), the local capital region (Partners of Three Stages) and productions originating at Folsom Lake College (Productions at Three Stages), we will certainly be making our way to the center quite often!

Opening festivities include a Ribbon Cutting and Open House on February 4. And the following weekend, “A Chorus Line: The National Tour” kicks off the 3-day grand opening. Other sure-to-be-popular productions include Hal Holbrook’s Mark Twain Tonight!, the Sacramento Ballet, Folsom Lake College’s dance company MOSAIC and many, many more. The Three Stages full calendar can be found online at www.threestages.net, with online ticket purchases beginning this Friday. And by purchasing tickets to three of the “Three Stages Presents” events, you’ll save 15 percent on your purchase. Buy your tickets early, as the shows are bound to sell out quickly!

Don't Forget...Daylight Saving Time Early Sundy Morning!

Ah, the joy of an extra hour of sleep. Yep, folks, it's that time again. FALL BACK!

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed on Saturday night. Technically Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, but hey, I'm not waking up at 2 to set the clock back!

And, mark your calendars for when you lose that hour when we SPRING FORWARD on March 13, 2011.
