Cinema at the State Film Series December Selection - White Christmas

The Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center announces its Cinema at the State Film Series selection for Thursday, December 20th at 7p.m. They will she showcasing the holiday romantic, comedy musical White Christmas.

White Christmas was one of the top box office hits of 1954 and has become a Christmas holiday season tradition. The endearing storyline and familiar faces (Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera Allen, Rosemary Clooney and Dean Jagger) make this film one of the most heartwarming, feel good films of all time. Excellent singing and dancing, featuring Irving Berlin songs "Sisters," "Snow," "Counting Blessings Instead of Sheep," and the Christmas favorite “White Christmas”, make this is a family-oriented film perfect for sharing with your loved ones over the holidays.

After leaving the Army following World War II, former military men Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) team up and become a top song-and-dance act. When they meet a pair of beautiful sisters, Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy (Vera Ellen) Haynes, who also have a song-and-dance act, they become enthralled. And when Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform for a Christmas show, the guys follow, only to find that their former commander, General Waverly, is the owner of the lodge. They also find out that the lodge is in trouble! Romantic mix-ups and tender moments follow as they all try to help the beloved General.

Filmed in Technicolor, and  distributed by Paramount Pictures, White Christmas is notable for being the first film produced and released in “VistaVision”, a wide-screen process developed by Paramount that entailed using twice the surface area of standard 35mm film. This large-area negative was used to yield finer-grained standard-sized 35 mm film prints.

Tickets are $8.00 at the door, with a limited number of seats available for advance purchase online at  You may also call the box office at 530-885-0156. The box office opens 90 minutes before show time for each performance.
