Take the Healthy Folsom Challenge This Saturday — January 25!

Is a healthier you on your new year's resolutions list? Join the Folsom Library's health challenge!

It's not too late to start keeping your new year's resolution to get healthier. The Folsom Library wants to help.

On Saturday, January 25, the library will kick off its first-ever Healthy Folsom Challenge, a five-week program that will make getting healthier fun and rewarding.

Healthier means not only a better diet (week 1) and more exercise (week 2) but also a healthier mind (week 3) and a healthy earth (week 4). Week 5 (Feb. 28) wraps up all the information, celebrates your successes and gives you tips for continuing your progress. Plus, you'll have to a chance win great raffle prizes.

The program is totally free and works like this: On January 25, 10 a.m to 1 p.m., the library will kick off the challenge in style, with a health fair, Instant Recess, cooking demonstrations, a play-and-learn island and a host of vendors (some of them: Whole Foods, Kaiser Permanente, California Family Fitness, Delta Dental, VSP, Spare the Air, My Kid's Dentist, Bryan College and Revolutions Natural Medical Solutions).

You'll get information on the four challenge areas and a log to record your healthy accomplishments. Your successes "buy" raffle tickets. If you miss the kickoff, you can still start the challenge and pick up a log until Feb. 21.

Though the challenge will end February 28, the library will continue to focus on better health through May with additional information and special presentations new books, audio books and DVDs have been added to the permanent collection.

This program is partly funded by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
