El Dorado Arts Council Sets in Motion 5th “Poetry Out Loud” Season

The year 2014 marks the five-year anniversary of Poetry Out Loud in El Dorado County!

High school students from across the county are among thousands of students state-wide who will be interpreting, memorizing and performing classical poetry for this nationally renowned competition run by the California Arts Council in partnership with the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

At stake are hundreds of dollars at the state competition level and thousands at the National Finals to be held April 28-30, 2014 in Washington, D.C.

Throughout January and February, area high schools will participate in the Poetry Out Loud preliminary competition, with school winners going on to vie for the title of Poetry Out Loud County Champion at the county finals held on Thursday, February 6th, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Imagination Theater, 100 Placerville Drive.
