A Century of Purses at the California Museum

If there's one thing we women love, it's our purses. One can really never have too many, right? They are a secret arsenal for anything we need on the go.

Well, the California Museum thinks so too, because they are inviting a whole lot of purses through their doors this summer.

The Purse & The Person, A Century of Women’s Purses, will showcase purses and their contents as a window on the changing roles of women over the past hundred years. The contents of our purses tell a lot about our roles and lives in society.

You will be able to get a peek inside the bags of all kinds of women ranging from Edwardian matrons to 1980s Superwomen.

You'll see evidences of prosperity, hardship, war, peace and women's rights.

There will also be a purse drive with donations going to St. John’s Shelter for Women & Children. Visitors who purchase a ticket to the museum and donate a new or slightly used purse, will receive one free admission. The “Bring a Purse, Bring a Friend” campaign runs through the month of July.
