From war craft to transportation, the airplane is symbolic of innovation, ingenuity and freedom. Artists too have captured this enduring subject for decades. In the next exhibit at the Gallery at 48 Natoma in Folsom, Wild Blue Yonder: the Art of Aviation, paintings and sculpture by four artists in aviation themes will be featured.
Three artists selected from the American Society of Aviation Artists, Carl E. Jones, Larry Lapadura and David Kalbach will exhibit paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolors, while George Popa will display his wire sculptures. The exhibit will open on Friday, March 15 and continue through May 9.
In the adjacent Community Gallery at 48 Natoma, the student art classes from Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills will be on display from March 5 to May 3. Featured will be a selection of student paintings and weavings from AP Art classes from teacher Conni Hardie, and 3D Design students’ clay sgraffito tiles and boxes from teacher Julie Ornelas.
The public is invited to celebrate both exhibits at the free opening reception on Friday, March 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with refreshments, wine and live music.
The gallery is free and open to the public and art is available for purchase. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9-5, with additional hours Tuesday nights from 6-8p.m. For more information about Gallery at 48 Natoma, click here.
