Dr. Charlotte Biltekoff - "Eating Right in America"

Dr. Charlotte Biltekoff, an Assistant Professor of Food Science & Technology at UC Davis, is fascinated with the relationship Americans have with their food. Her latest book, Eating Right in America: The Cultural Politics of Food and Health, investigates the history of dietary ideals and their relationship to social ideals. It argues that despite the seeming objectivity of norms of good health, dietary advice has historically served an important ideological and political role.
The project examines four different reform movements and shows how each was shaped by social concerns and provided dietary advice that reflected norms of moral personhood and good citizenship. Dr. Ted Christy - "Science, Cars and Medicine - a Noble Career"

The nation's medical care programs are hot topics among every news organization imaginable. Back by popular demand, Dr. Ted Christy, a retired physician, will talk about the circuitous route that lead him from an interest in Physics to fixing cars on the streets of Berkeley and finally a career in medicine. He will share some of the lessons he learned along the way and how a love of lifelong learning fueled his journey. He will also give his appraisal of the current state of medicine in the U.S. and include a discussion of the biggest change in federal support programs since Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, aka "ObamaCare."
