While we all are increasingly more dependent on up-to-the-minute news, there is a dying breed of art that has resulted from the current technology age of Twitter, Blackberries and the I
nternet.
As the public refers to these quick and transitory forms of the media, the sometimes brilliant work of the illustrator has become more and more rare. Many newspapers and media sources are terminating the use of original art to illustrate articles.
In a fantastic display at the Gallery at 48 Natoma, three artists work of famous faces and events will be highlighted in the exhibit, “All That’s Fit to Print” from March 19 to May 6, 2010.
Former artist from the Sacramento Bee, Charles Waltmire will show a fifteen year retrospective of his cover art for the award-wining newspaper. Illustrating memorable news articles in regional, national and international news with his breathtakingly realistic paintings of celebrities, political figures and national events his work has been widely recognized.
Along with this exciting collection of illustrations, the gallery will showcase the ceramic works of Karen Calden Fulk. Her entertaining pieces capture more famous likenesses of movie stars, historical figures and politicians.

In a companion exhibit at the gallery, Ms. Fulk will show her whimsical character sketches along with notable courtroom art by Vicki Behringer. Famous national courtroom trials such as those of Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson, and Barry Bonds, to name a few, will be highlighted.

The opening reception for both exhibits is Friday, March 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will include live music by the multi-talented Charles Waltmire’s own band, Garageland Rodeo (he also plays the drums). Wine and refreshments will be sponsored by the Folsom Patrons of the Arts.
The artists’ reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public and art is available for purchase.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with additional hours on some week nights and Saturdays. Please call the gallery for holiday, evening and weekend hours. Special group and free school tours can be arranged by appointment.
